27 East Williams is a long-standing diamond in the rough. Our team has watched this building change hands several times from our office around the corner. The new owner is passionate and deeply invested in the structure, the business he’s creating within it, and making sure that the entire project is consistent and supports his brand.
A historic structure of merit, we worked very closely with the Owner to understand the original intent for the building, drawing on sketches from 1910. Our task was to marry the original design intent with the code requirements for the new café use. We meticulously designed the wood windows, doors, panels, and awning structure, to ensure the same level of craftsmanship and detail we would have found had these elements survived.
The focal point of this will be large, custom carriage style doors in the center opening that will allow the people, sights, smells and sounds of the mechanical orchestra to spill out into an outdoor eating area, drawing patrons from surrounding museums, theaters, and shops to the café.
